Case Study - Multi-Use Centre Funding Success
In December 2005 Silk Willoughby lost their post office. Fortunately the Post Office offered to support the community by relocating to another property; the community identified and refurbished the toilet block which was part of the village hall. The newly refurbished building was opened in July 2006 and now houses a post office and small retail section selling cards, stationery and basic provisions for local people. Prescriptions and medicines can also be delivered to the post office. This building has proved to be an invaluable social meeting place and an essential part of the community. However in order to sustain the facility, the Parish Council realised they needed funding for running costs and insurance maintenance to help support the post office. Funding was also needed for the rent which also supports the sustainability of the village hall. The Parish Council approached O2 and applied for £780.00 from the “It’s your community” award. This money would help pay for running costs for the next 2 years. In August 2007 the Parish Council were successful in receiving the award. On the 18th October 2007, a representative from the O2 shop in Grantham attended an open day held by the Parish Council and village hall committee to present the cheque. Mr Paul Steer, Chairman of the Parish Council, stated “we say many thanks to O2 for this award. It will mean we will have the funds to maintain the muti0-use centre thereby enabling the facility to continue to support the village of Silk Willoughby and other local communities”.The O2 “It's Your Community” award exists to inspire everyone to make a tangible difference to the places we live. Awards starting from £100 and up to £1,000 are available for ideas which benefit the community and build community spirit.
