Award for Village Hall Volunteer

Now in its 7th year, The John Barker Trophy Award was established to recognise the technical expertise and work undertaken by John Barker MBE on building related matters with Lincolnshire Village Halls and Community Centres.

We invite village hall and community building management committees to nominate a volunteer who they consider has made any outstanding contribution to the management of their hall, it is open to all volunteers who currently serve or have recently retired from the Management Committee.

The winner for 2009 is Mrs Betty Bland of Washingborough Community Centre.  Mrs Bland attended the Community Lincs award evening on 18th November 2009 held at Osbournby Village Hall.  Mrs Bland was part of the original committee that successfully raised funds for the new building, officially opened in 1981.  Mrs Bland is Chairman of the village hall and has always been on call to sort out any problems that occur.  “She is a super Chairman and always working in the background, and if her family can’t find her at home, they know where she is!”

Community Lincs would also like to take this opportunity to thank John Barker MBE, Mr John Rose and Mrs Barbara Clay who were this years judges.
