Printer Friendly Version (opens in new window)Community buildings can often by cold, draughty and expensive to heat. There is a growing concern about climate change and the over-use of existing resources.
The aim of this information is to help committees who run halls to protect and improve the environment by identifying and considering ways to become more energy efficient and reduce emissions as well as make savings. There are a number of reasons why trustees and others managing community buildings should consider this subject:
- Climate change
- To reduce running costs
- Encourage good use of the hall
- To set an example to the local community
- Personal satisfaction
- Legislative requirements
“Ensuring a hall is warm, welcoming and financially sustainable helps meet these objects and making a hall more energy efficient is an important means of doing this.” Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), 2006. How ‘green’ is your village hall? [Information Sheet] ACRE.
