Parish and Community Planning Toolkit

ACRE-Action with Communities in Rural England is the national umbrella organisation of Rural Community Councils (RCC’s) across England. ACRE together with RCC’s in the South East of England has developed a Parish Plan Toolkit designed to support communities to undertake a plan.

To view a section of the Toolkit click here

The full toolkit along with additional local information will be made available to all communities who decide to undertake a Parish plan.

The comprehensive resource for Community Led/ Parish Planning

A new comprehensive resource for Community Led Planning has been developed using decades of experience from those who have supported or implemented it within local communities.  CLP offers many opportunities and benefits for local residents, local government and democratic renewal.

This site includes information on how the CLP approach allows local people to decide their own future, how local government can build on the energies of local residents to engage with local communities and the many benefits such an approach has for all those concerned with making community empowerment a reality.  The quotes and interesting facts which are distributed throughout the website text are drawn from individual case studies and research documents related to the practical implementation of CLP.  Community Led Planning is a structured process that engages local people in debate about their local area.  It encourages them to identify local needs, to develop local solutions and have real influence with local decision-making about the needs, priorities and their future.  The process takes place over time, involving all sections of the community and covers all matters that affect quality of life in a local area, particularly those that need most support.   The process results in an action plan which identifies:
  • Actions the community can take forward itself
  • Actions that need external support to achieve
  • Actions that require external influence over long term statutory plans
www.communityledplanning.com  has been created by ACRE, drawing on the experience of the Rural Community Action Network practitioners at local level and the ground-breaking work by local authorities that have supported Community Led Planning as a means of strengthening their relationship with communities.
