 Active Parishes Grant

Supporting Local Communities to Tackle the Recession

This grant pot is now closed.  Unfortunately there will not be any future funding rounds.

The cumulative impact of the recession on rural communities is a concern for the Commission of Rural Communities (an independent body whose role is to act as a ‘rural watchdog to the government’).

The Commission recently said:“We need to build on the strong qualities of many of our rural economies to help to overturn this current recession. It is to build on the strengths of many rural economies that what rural firms and communities ask for is to have equity of access to business advice, employee support, training programmes, and funding”.

Whilst there is a high level of uncertainty about the present economic situation and how this will affect local businesses and communities, in any changing scenario there will always be opportunities and the challenge for Lincolnshire will be to identify and respond to these.

The Active Parishes Grant administered by Community Lincs is able to assist the development of projects that support our local economies through grants of up to £10,000 (match funding  now only 25%). All we ask is that projects have the backing of the local community and you can evidence this.

  • Saxilby carried out a Community Led Plan in 2006 that identified the need to promote local businesses and tourism in the village. Saxilby have been awarded a grant of £2,737 to develop a Tourism Strategy and produce information boards that will be placed strategically across the village promoting what local businesses have to offer. Tourism in Lincolnshire is an underrated industry, but with more people holidaying at home there is a tremendous opportunity for the large number of businesses who make up Lincolnshire’s tourism product.

  • A local businessman in a market town in the north of the county has joined forces with several other businesses to promote and support business activity in the town. They plan to do this by developing a business directory, creating a forum, holding networking meetings and facilitating training and information to businesses that sign up to the forum. Having developed a constitution, the forum will be able to apply to the Active Parishes for funding to support their suggested activities.

  • A Social Enterprise in Gainsborough that works with disadvantaged young people has been awarded £10,000 to develop a motorcycle workshop that will provide young people with the opportunity to undertake accredited training courses alongside basic literacy and numeric skills. In addition there will be the opportunity to learn to ride the bikes!
The Active Parishes Grant is available across the county (except for Lincoln City).
