What is Green Space? Any local ‘natural’ surroundings such as grass verges, trees, hedgerows, footpaths, allotments or village greens that can provide space for nature to flourish and a place for local communities to enjoy.
Although Lincolnshire’s rural communities appear to have many green spaces there sometimes can be issues around access, safety and upkeep which can prevent green spaces from being enjoyed by everyone or from fulfilling their wildlife potential.
Many local communities are very keen to preserve and improve their natural surroundings or even make new green spaces. However, as with any community project it is not always clear where to start ,whether its simply to tidy up a neglected community flower bed or to tackle the challenge of creating a local nature reserve.
Community Lincs has a freely available Green Space Tool Kit which offers step by step guide and many handy hints for any community Green Space project. From understanding the existing value, developing new ideas, applying for funding, planning the project to contacting organisations that can help, the Tool Kit is a really useful resource for all local communities.
