From September 2009 to March 2010, Community Lincs ran a project to explore how we can make our core business more youth-friendly.
We want to strengthen the existing support we offer to communities - by ensuring our approaches can create genuine and relevant opportunities for young people to engage and become active. We have been working closely with the Rural Youth Team and developing links with The Lincolnshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services and LCC's Youth Participation Team.
Our Youth and Community Development Officer, Helen Freeston, spent time researching existing effective practice in our community networks and piloting some new approaches.
The work particularly set out to focus on affordable rural housing, community led planning, democratic participation and increasing employment opportunities through (real) social networks. However due to a number of factors the last of these looking at access to employment was not pursued. A short report describing the rationale and context for this is available here.
We have started uploading case studies sharing some good practice amongst Parish and Town Council and Community Led Planning in June 2010. You can read these by following the links here (our projects and resources page).
The link will also take you to our Rural Housing Project report.
ARE YOU A YOUNG PERSON?
Meanwhile - if you are a young person (aged under 25)actively engaging with or feeding into your Parish or Town Council on an ongoing basis, or contributing to Community led planning DO please get in touch. We would love to share your story.
If you are a local council or community group actively involving young people in your work we would also like to hear from you. Enabling others to read about your ideas and experiences is an extremely valuable way to encourage more people to be proactive.
